Architect

An architect designs space people live, work, or gather in: sketch, drawing, specification, the permit chain, then site supervision. The job is not “make the 3D pretty” — it is the fire route, light, agreement with structure, the budget, and a sheet a contractor can build from.

In Uzbekistan that is often housing, commercial work, a full interior cycle, or a firm tied to a public/object tender. Urbanism, landscape, and monument restoration sit nearby with different programs and liability. Do not mix the role with interior designer, structural engineer, or estimator: you defend the spatial idea; they own their layer.

The work fits people who can write a compromise, hear critique, and go to site. It is a poor fit if you only want Lumion renders and “creative freedom” — the client, the code, and money cut every project.

Monday: client or contractor meeting, a change list. Tuesday–Wednesday: the model (Revit/CAD), a sheet, dimensions. Thursday: with structure or cost — “this wall does not move.” Friday: a PDF set, a supervision note, sometimes site.

Many hours are not “creativity” — they are reading someone else’s model, checking a survey, writing “this is not on the drawing.” In a small firm a junior both visualizes and compiles the folder. In a large one you own one stage (facade, interior, documents).

Survey, photos, a contractor question, “it is not in the project but already built.” Summer roofs, winter wet basements, a helmet and boots — not office clothes. Supervision: a spoken “fine” is not enough; you leave a written trail.

TAQI’s professional-development center advertised short 2026 courses on author’s supervision (around 72 hours) — that does not replace a degree, but it shows site language exists. Prices move; check the official page. This handbook is not a price list.

Read the name in the firm ad. A student license is the legal path; a crack is a risk even for a portfolio.

Tashkent University of Architecture and Civil Engineering (TAQI) is the main public landmark: bachelor 60730100 “Architecture (by type),” 60730800 monument restoration, with design/interior nearby. 2026/2027 admission quotas are published on the university site (including master’s rows for building architecture and urban/landscape). Other universities and foreign programs exist — diploma filters depend on the firm.

School gives models, drawings, critique. Revit is not always deep in the curriculum; many students add a student license or an outside course. A diploma does not make you the “stamping architect” — practice and internal rules do.

Interior tracks sometimes hire from a design faculty or a strong book. Large construction tenders often ask for the degree.

Three to five projects are enough if each has: the brief, a constraint (plot, budget), your share, one section/facade explained. A stack of AI renders fails in the room: “where did this dimension come from?”

Do not label school work as commercial. In a group studio, mark your sheet. A 10–20 MB PDF, your name, a phone. A Dribbble screenshot speaks little to a firm — they need drawing language.

Internship: a survey, cleaning a sheet, meeting notes. “Summer practice from year two” is common at TAQI and other schools. Pay is small or a stipend — write it down first. Six unpaid months “for experience” is a red line.

First job: hh.uz, firm Instagram, a teacher’s referral, Telegram. More seats in Tashkent; in the regions a small practice or a construction office.

Freelance interiors: client, deposit, authorship. Hard for a junior — one or two small assists first, not your main income.

A fit: you see space in section, do not take critique personally, and can talk to both a number and a person. Drawing helps; “being an artist” is not required.

A poor fit: renders only; refusing site; “I will not read codes.” Back pain and night deadlines without a routine are a real risk.

The statistics committee construction average is about 7.02M UZS (H1 2026). That row mixes architects, estimators, installers, and office staff. There is no official “junior architect” series — we will not invent one.

Firm salaries in ads vary; solo practice follows the project cycle (an empty month, then a late payment). Urban growth and commercial objects create work; they pause in a slump. Tashkent’s average wage (~12.01M, H1 2026) sits above the national ~7.09M — that is still not an architect row.

Factors: BIM, English (foreign clients), site time, tender vs private villa. Ask about tax and contract type.

Where: hh.uz, firm sites, Instagram, Telegram, teachers. Language: drawings and codes in Uzbek/Russian, software UI in English. Employers: private studios, design institutes, a department inside a construction holding, interior studios.

The cycle is permits and money. “We drew it” is not yet a build. Region: more objects in the capital; Samarkand/Bukhara sit nearer tourism and heritage; regions often want a “do everything” seat.

Short: visuals/BIM for a foreign client from Uzbekistan (contract, tax, copyright). Medium: European sheets through an outsource studio — English and units (mm vs ft).

Long: RIBA, NCARB, or that country’s own exam. That is years, a book, sometimes more school. Do not convert a US/EU salary at the FX rate. Relocation is visa law — not a how-to on this page.

Generative tools now speed a moodboard, facade options, an interior “conversation.” They do not own the fire route, seismic, or copyright. “AI drew it, build it” is your risk.

Learn: a short prompt, you set the dimension, licensed textures. The scarce skill is the section, the code, and saying “this is wrong” on site.

Demand follows the construction cycle — not a permanent “IT growth” story. Risks: night deadlines, eyes, budget fights, visuals without a contract. Myths: “I know Revit, so I am an architect”; “AI will permit the house”; “the official 7M is my junior salary.” Reality: a book, the site, the firm’s process.
